DIY Mini Wood Stove

We should not always have to scurry around in an emergency situation, especially when you are prepared. Having your emergency survival kit well prepped is the first step, but what you have packed in your kit is also important. This diy mini wood stove would be a perfect fit for any kit.

This little life saver, is actually pretty easy to build. Just take the time out to find all the materials you need, which again should be very affordable at any local hardware store. Once you have everything you need, you can go ahead and follow the step by step instructions below.

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • empty Altoids container
  • 1/8″ hardware cloth
  • 2″ aluminum post with screws
  • 4 hex nuts
  • marker
  • tape measure
  • 1/16″ drill bit
  • 3/16″ drill bit
  • hand held drill
  • wire cutter
  • pliers
  • lighter
  • fire starters

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Mark 1/4″ from each corner on the bottom of the tin.

Step 2.

DIY Mini Wood Stove

Mark 3/8″ on the 3 front sides of the container.

Step 3.

Mark 3 evenly spaced marks on the front of the tin.
On the sides just mark two on each side.

Step 4.

Drill all the marked points using the 1/16″ drill bit.

Step 5.

Repeat with the 3/16″ drill bit, in order to enlarge the holes.

Step 6.

Insert the bolts, into the 4 holes on the bottom and
immediately secure using the hex nuts.

Step 7.

Center the hardware cloth on top of the tin, then count
3 squares in from each edge and make markings.

Step 8.

Mark four squares in each corner, of the wire mesh and
then use your wire cutter to cut out those sections.

Step 9.

DIY Mini Wood Stove

Use your pliers to bend down each of the outer edges.
Insert the resulting grate into your tin.

Step 10.

Thread the support posts into each of the four bolts
in the bottom of the tin. That’s it your stove is complete.

You can carry everything you need for this mini stove within it. Just unscrew the posts, remove the grate. Place all the loose items including your fire starters, poles and lighter in the container. The grate secures everything in place, and you can close the tin.

How To Use It? Simply assemble all the parts, then light your fire on the grate. Place any small sticks and firewood on the grate. Your pot will be supported by the posts, while you cook. Make sure you test your mini stove, before packing it in your survival kit.
