Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • paracord
  • survival knife
  • young green tree

The main shaft of your bow will be made from a young green tree or sapling. It is recommended that you use hardwoods for this such hickory, eastern red cedar, black locust or beech. The ideal section of the tree to use should have no leaves, at least an inch in diameter, straight and be at least six feet in length.

Use the knife to carve out the belly side of the bow. The best technique for this job is to tap lightly on your knife, and carefully remove carvings. The bow is ready when it bends, after you apply pressure to the limbs. All you have to do is carve out a little more wood from the limbs, create the notches to tie the cord and your bow is ready to for action.
