After you have found your water source and have a fire running, the next logical step would be to hunt for food. You probably have some string in your survival kit, that should be enough for you to build this diy survival crossbow, that was featured on the Discovery Channel.

This crossbow has a few components that are assembled together like IKEA furniture. Bamboo works great for this, because of its flexibility. If you are in an area that does not have bamboo, then you may have to look around for another flexible replacement material. This crossbow can be used to shoot birds and small animals such as rabbits.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • bamboo
  • utility knife
  • string or rope

The crossbow only has four components, you will need to cut at least 3 pieces of bamboo to get started. The first thing to make is the body of the crossbow, then you split the other piece of bamboo in half to make the limb which is the second component. Use the knife to make a hole right through the body about halfway from the front end.

The string and the trigger are the other two components. The later requires a little more time in order for it to work well when you are releasing your arrows. There is a groove about an inch from the front of the body, this will hold the limb in place. The last thing you will need to make of course will be the arrows.
