We have all seen the infamous survival water straw that is available on Amazon, that can not only be used in survival situations but is now being used for humanitarian purposes too. What if I told you, you could make your own homemade straw water filter, right in your kitchen?

Yep! That is absolutely correct. The best part is it won’t cost you anywhere as much as the ready made one. I love this water filter, because you can make one in less than 5 minutes and it can work both as a straw or as an ordinary funnel filter, with just some slight modifications.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Push a cotton ball through one end of the turkey baster
using a pencil, make sure it sits on the bottom.

Step 2.

Rinse your activated carbon in a tea strainer, under
cold running water in your kitchen sink.

Step 3.

Pour your rinsed activated carbon into the tube.

Step 4.

Push down another cotton ball or two to hold the
activated carbon in place.

Step 5.

Cut a piece of coffee filter and attach it to the
bottom end of the filter using a twist tie or rubber band.

Instead of using cotton balls, you can use balled up pieces of coffee filter paper. They will do the job just as good. How do you use it? Just like a straw. Simply stick the bottom end with the coffee filter outside into the water and suck on the other end like a straw. Can also be use as a water filter by reattaching the rubber head of the baster and cutting off the top, so you can pour water into the straw.
